Installation Instructions for the Hand Extensor Tendon Fixation Brace

I. Preparation Work

Check the Accessories: Confirm that components such as the power brace, splint, elastic wire, spring, finger sleeve, screws, and Velcro are complete and undamaged. Select a suitable brace according to the patient's hand extensor tendon injury condition and body shape.

Soften the Splint: Wear heat-insulating gloves, put the splint into hot water at 65 - 70°C and soak it for 2 - 3 minutes. Turn it over during this period to ensure uniform softening, and drain the water after taking it out.

II. Splint Molding

Placement and Adjustment: Have the patient place their palm downwards, put the softened splint on the palmar side of the wrist, align it with the palmar crease, and ensure that the metacarpophalangeal joints can flex freely and the joints have room for movement.

Molding and Hardening: Mold the splint upwards along the palmar side to fit the hand, keep it for 3 - 5 minutes until it cools and hardens, and then remove it.

III. Installation of Elastic Components

Determine the Position: Taking the vertical midline as the reference, determine the fixing position of the elastic wire in the direction of the metacarpal bone according to the injured part. For a single finger injury, fix it on the corresponding metacarpal bone, and for multiple finger injuries, plan the fixing position according to the injury range.

Fix the Components: Arrange the elastic wire properly, install the spring and finger sleeve in sequence, and fix them at the corresponding positions on the splint or the hand with screws, ensuring that the wire is tightened and the spring works properly.

IV. Overall Fixation and Inspection

Fix with Velcro: Help the patient put on the brace, adjust the finger sleeve to fit comfortably, fix it with Velcro, and adjust the tightness as needed.

Function Inspection: Check the movement of the interphalangeal joints and metacarpophalangeal joints to ensure free extension and flexion, and that the brace has no shaking or jamming. If necessary, fine-tune the positions of the screws and Velcro.
